Day 47, Ashland, OR – Florence, OR

Since we didn’t have hookups last night, we didn’t get coffee OR showers this morning! It wasn’t all that bad though and we both woke up and got moving early. After Tyler’s morning meeting, we hooked up and gathered our camp gear, leaving Ashland and heading towards Coos Bay.

Our original plan was to travel about 3 hours, landing in Coos Bay. Tyler had a few more meetings so we made stops along the way. Our first stop was Canyonville and we sat parked outside Seven Feathers Casino. Casino parking lots offer a wonderful place to park RV’s and hang out. While Tyler was conducting his meeting, I let the dogs out. We went into the casino for about 3 minutes (not even joking) before deciding we were ready to head a short distance to Myrtle Creek.

We haven’t been to Myrtle Creek since 2004. We wouldn’t pass up a visit with grandma Opal who is laid to rest in the cemetery there. Tyler had another meeting and once it was finished, we parked at the bottom of the hill and walked up to the cemetery. Our memory was vague of where she was, but Tyler was able to find her nestled under a shady tree on the edge of the grounds. She certainly had the best seat in the house. A lot of emotions came over us as we stood over the site. Tyler’s mom had left flowers previously and I snapped a few pictures and tried to comfort Tyler.

As we traveled further down the road, we decided to stop in North Bend. We looked into the RV park at The Mill Casino but decided their nightly rate was too high and there were plenty of other places we could stay. Tyler found Three Rivers close by with RV parking so we decided to give it a whirl. When we arrived, the parking lot was small and there were no other trailers in site. A quick google search revealed there were actually 2 Three Rivers Casinos.

We had made it to Coos Bay, but the day wasn’t getting any younger and we feared the first come first served sites we had our eye on would already be taken. It was already after 3 pm and we hadn’t eaten. I knew I was on a time clock and needing to feed the bear so we stopped at a little eatery in Coos Bay then we decided to continue our trek to Florence, OR.

When we arrived at Three Rivers Casino in Florence we could see the large lot with campers parked within. We went inside and made arrangements to be able to stay overnight. The process was easy and it was FREE with a player’s card. We signed up for the card and got $10 each in free play. It entertained us for a bit. We stayed in and played for a short time before returning to the trailer. Tyler had work on the brain and immediately started back at his tasks to prep for tomorrow’s meetings.

Our night has been slow and relaxed. We don’t have anything planned for these next few days and I am looking forward to spending some time at the beach. We will scope out a new place to stay tomorrow. Our next solid plan is to be in Corvallis by Friday where we will finally meet our new little nephew, but the next couple days are all ours and will also close out our cross country adventure. It’s hard to believe we have been gone for nearly 50 days, it’s even harder to believe we will be HOME soon!
